Hello, dear Readers,
I'm posting a new short essay, and I'm also taking a course to teach me how marketing, publicity ( both earned and placed) work. It is an uphill climb I must say! The course is called Your Breakout Book (https://yourbreakoutbook.com/) For someone so educated and successful all of these years, I am a real novice, really a pre-schooler in this arena.
I've always been taught to avoid publicity! Getting ready to market myself and my writing is not easy. I love research, and doodling around the internet, but I must ask you, my readers to be very patient with me as I learn what publicity is before hiring a publicist or launching my next book, Dream Killing.
I think a good way to start is a newsletter, and right now I am studying that topic intensely. Please send me an email if you'd like to sign up for my still-gestating newsletter, and just be patient while I set up a connection on Facebook and Instagram.
Also, if you'd like to read my first book ( be merciful, it was published in 2012 before I knew anything at all about the book business), please let me know. I still have copies of it in the garage, and will send it to anyone who wants to read it. Here is the link to the book's link on Amazon : https://www.amazon.com/Killing-Time-Well-Know-Ones/dp/0956079520/ref=sr_1_1?crid=GC1RUTUBC8EG&keywords=Killing+in+Time+Elizabeth+Carroll&qid=1651341561&sprefix=killing+in+time+elizabeth+carroll%2Caps%2C127&sr=8-1 .
They only have one copy left, so probably the best way is just to ask, and I will send it for free--even cover shipping.
Great post...and yes unfortunately marketing/pr is the necessary evil for all published authors....and every author I know hates it, especially because of the demands of time especially with social media platforms-so much has changed in the last 15 years...the interesting thing is that most authors will tell you haven't really sold books because of social media...there are often discussion threads of this very topic...but it does create a following and a 'presence'
